Technology
What is kraftwerk and how does it work?
kraftwerk replaces the conventional battery system with a compact aSOFC with Nanocrystalline Electrolyte — the vehicle generates its own electricity on board, with no need to recharge.
Learn more about how it works on our Technology page →How efficient is the fuel cell?
Up to 92.0% electrical efficiency (LHV) on LNG/CNG; up to 82.4% on diesel and liquid fuels; up to 74.8% on hydrogen and ammonia. Conventional PEM fuel cells reach roughly 55–74%.
What makes this different from traditional electric cars?
kraftwerk vehicles don't carry heavy lithium-ion battery packs. They generate their own electricity on board — lighter, longer range, no charging stops.
What fuels can kraftwerk vehicles use?
Hydrogen, natural gas, methanol, ammonia, diesel — and virtually any hydrogen-carrying fuel. One platform, every fuel, including the fuels of tomorrow.
See the fuel platform on the Technology page →How do I refill my kraftwerk vehicle?
At standard hydrogen or natural gas stations — usually in under 2 minutes.
Is it loud? What about emissions?
No combustion, no moving parts: the system runs near-silent at around 20 dB, with near-zero NOx, SOx and particulates at the point of use. CO₂ occurs only when a carbon fuel is used — and is captured in the closed loop.
Does kraftwerk need lithium or rare materials?
No lithium, no cobalt, no platinum, no rare materials — and production costs are more than 80% lower than battery systems.
What happens if the SURFBOARD™ module needs maintenance?
The system is designed for long-term durability. Routine service can be performed by authorized kraftwerk partners.

Vehicles & pledge
Can I order or reserve a kraftwerk-powered vehicle today?
Yes, selected models are available for pre-order now. Early reservations secure priority on the delivery list once production begins — a pre-order is not a delivery guarantee.
How does the pledge work?
Pick a vehicle, place a pledge — starting at $0 — and your name goes on the list. Every pledge counts toward the $500,000,000 goal, and the counter climbs in real time. Please note that a pre-order is binding: it is a commitment to purchase at the base price, and it is non-refundable.
Read the reservation terms →Can I change or cancel my pledge later?
Please treat your pledge as binding. Our Terms & Conditions state that all pre-orders — free or paid — are non-refundable, and that a free pre-order is an explicit commitment to purchase a vehicle at the base price once it is released. kraftwerk AUTO Inc. also reserves the right to cancel or modify pre-orders at any time. Choosing the details of your vehicle happens later, in the configurator — the reservation itself stays binding. For an individual case, write to info@kraftwerkgroup.com; the Terms & Conditions apply.
Read the full Terms & Conditions →When will my vehicle be delivered?
Vehicle delivery is expected to begin 12 months after the campaign is successfully funded, and the configurator opens around 6 months after the campaign ends. Shipping and taxes will be charged separately when your vehicle is ready for delivery. These are expectations, not commitments: pre-orders do not guarantee delivery, availability or timeline, because the vehicle program depends on external funding.
Is the checkout secure?
Yes. Payments are processed through Stripe checkout. The checkout is currently available in English.
How far can I drive with a kraftwerk-powered vehicle?
The proof-of-concept vehicle with the Volkswagen Group travelled 2,000 km on a single tank — and each SURFBOARD™ tank module adds up to ~1,500 km. Refueling takes about 2 minutes.
How does kraftwerk keep costs low?
We replace costly battery packs with our own lightweight SURFBOARD™ module — an aSOFC system with production costs more than 80% lower than battery systems. That makes the vehicles lighter and more efficient.
Learn more about how it works on our Technology page →Is the vehicle still street legal after the upgrade?
Conversions are designed to meet EU and local homologation requirements; certification is completed per region as part of the production program.

Is kraftwerk's technology already proven?
Yes — five years of proof-of-concept with the Volkswagen Group, a test vehicle travelling 2,000 km on a single tank, and TRL 7 completed.
